Tilton War Memorial

The village war memorial is situated in the churchyard to the south of the church. The inscription reads as follows:

He married May who lived at The Haven, Bo'ness, West Lothian.  In 1881 he lived at 21 Highfield Street, Leicester with his 6 siblings and 3 servants.

In 1901 he was Manager Gas Appliances in Plymouth, Devon. His mother, Sarah, is living in Leicester.

Bertram's father, William, was Vicar of St. Peters, Tilton towards the end of the 19th Century

Engaged in Tea and Rubber planting in Ceylon when he volunteered for active service. He returned to England in 1915. In 1901 Wm. Sidney Chippendall is living in Wansted, Essex and working as a Shipbrokers Clerk.

Parents William Hewer and Harriet Liquorish, of Tilton. William and Harry Hewer were brothers. William Hewer, their father died 9th October 1907 aged 65. His wife, Harriet died 24th May 1912 aged 49. Their gravestone lies to the North side of St. Peter's Church and also commemorates their sons' deaths. An image of the gravestone can be found here.

Henry Liquorish, their grandfather on their mother's side, died 17th March 1916 in his 80th year. His wife Mary, died 26th May 1923 aged 85. An image of their gravestone can be found here.
